As players explore sandbox areas and infiltrate strongholds, they will inevitably encounter specific access terminals in Star Wars Outlaws. These are guarded by a tricky puzzle minigame, the trick to see through which is called 'slicing' as per in-game lore. Compared to many other minigames in Ubisoft's latest sci-fi open-world game, these can be fairly challenging, especially if players do not know how it works.

Thankfully, it isn't too hard either. This guide will detail how slicing terminals in Star Wars Outlaws work.

Before we start, we recommend players swap the shapes for numbers to make the puzzle more coherent to solve; this can be done via the Gameplay tab in Settings by toggling the Slicing Numbered Buttons "On" under the Slicing section. There are two components to this minigame to keep track of: the bunch of numbers on the left, and the rows and columns to the right.

The gist is to find the correct combination of numbers from the pool on the left by inputting them in the blocks to the right in a row. The number of rows represents the number of tries players will get before being locked out of the terminal temporarily or worse, alerting nearby foes. Here are three criteria to note when slicing terminals in Star Wars Outlaws:

  • If the number is not part of the correct code, the block will turn red with a cross.
  • If the number is correct but in the wrong position, the block will turn yellow.
  • If the number is in the correct spot, the block will turn blue.

An incorrect set of numbers will proceed to the next row, and so on until either the number of attempts are exhausted or the correct code is entered. It comes down to experimentation, so players should start by picking a set of numbers and seeing if they stick. The red crossed numbers can be ignored, while the yellow ones need to be rearranged,

The blue ones will remain in the terminal, in which case players must only figure out the rest of the code by repeating the trial-and-error process. Once the correct code has been found, players can progress ahead by either grabbing the information in the terminal or accessing security features for the area like cameras.
