ARK Survival Ascended Aberration has a wealth of fantastic monsters to tame, including the Basilisk. While it appears in a wide variety of map locations, it can be a little hard to spot, let alone tame. You’ll need to be a little creative with your trapping since this isn’t a monster you just tranquilize and feed. Instead, you have to lure it out of the ground, get it to your trap, and then feed it.
Now that the ARK Survival Ascended Aberration update is here, players can take part in all the content that this expansion provides. If you’re looking to tame a Basilisk, here's how you can catch one easily and safely.

The most important part when it comes to trying to tame a Basilisk in ARK Survival Ascended Aberration is finding one. You can find them throughout the Blue Zone, typically fighting other creatures. However, they can also be found in the ground, so look for their tails rattling up through the ground. Unlike creatures like the Yi Ling, we aren’t going to knock this one out before taming it.
You can likely find them in the Green Zone as well, along rivers, but we had the best luck in the Blue Zone. You’ll need a few things before you go and get the attention of a Basilisk: food to feed it and the saddle. The ideal food is either Fertilized Rock Drake Egg, Fertilized Voidwyrm Egg, or Fertilized Magmasaur Eggs. I recommend bringing several of your chosen food type.
To craft the Basilisk Saddle in ARK Survival Ascended Aberration, you need to have Crafting Level 85 and create it in the Smithy. It requires the following parts:
- 85x Cementing Paste or Achatina Paste
- 150x Fiber
- 45x Green Gem or Fragmented Green Gem
- 270x Hide
- 425x Metal Ingot or Scrap Metal Ingot
Set up your trap and get the attention of the Basilisk in ARK Survival Ascended Aberration. Try to avoid shooting it if you can. Once it knows you’re there, run, and lead it into your trap. You’ll also need to keep an eye out for its poison spit—you don’t want to get hit by that. Depending on how packed the area is with other creatures, you may have to help it fight, so it can then get back to chasing you.
Once it’s in your trap, drop the food down to the Basilisk, and it should eat it when it’s hungry. After it’s eaten and calmed down, the Basilisk should be tame. Give it a name, equip it with the saddle, and break down the trap so you can move it.
How to set up a Basilisk taming trap in ARK Survival Ascended Aberration
There are many ways you can make a Basilisk taming trap in ARK Survival Ascended Aberration. The key is to be able to run up and keep the gigantic snake trapped down in an area it cannot slither out of. You’ll want it to be a few tiles high, and several wide—at least a 3x4 trap is best—made of stone.
Then leave an exit just big enough for you to leave through, and a nice, tall ladder. This will lead up to a stone ceiling tile to stand on. This is to drop the food down to tame the Basilisk. We’re using stone to keep us as safe from the poison blasts as possible.
