However, some of the more challenging boss fights are found while playing through the campaign, which features Atlus' popular turn-based combat, not too dissimilar to that seen in Persona 5.

One of the earliest boss fights in Metaphor ReFantazio that players can face is against the Fire Dragon Mauna, who, as the name suggests, expels fire that can burn the protagonist to a crisp. However, it's key to note this is an optional boss fight and can be avoided if needed. With that in mind, here is a guide on how you can defeat this boss.

Steps to defeat Fire Dragon Mauna in Metaphor ReFantazio

Preparing for the Fire Dragon Mauna

In preparation for the fight, it is suggested that you purchase some ice chunks and stock up medicinal items to assist in combat. Given that only the Protagonist, Strohl, and Grius can form the party at this point in the campaign, relevant archetypes must be chosen. Here are our suggestions for the same.

• Protagonist: Seeker Archetype is suggested, and the Dei spell within it can help to heal while in combat.
• Grius: Mage Archetype is suggested so that Blizz can be cast to deal heavy damage given the enemy's weakness to Ice.
• Strohl: Warrior Archetype is suggested, and the Diagonal Slash attack must be thoroughly utilized.

Keep in mind that ample cash and MAG may be required to acquire the aforementioned ideal archetypes, which may require some grinding in-game to achieve.

Defeating the Fire Dragon Mauna

Start the battle using Grius' Mage Archetype and the Blizz attack to utilize the Dragon's weakness against ice attacks. Using Blizz repeatedly will cause ample damage to the enemy. In the meantime, have the Protagonist and Strohl effectively use the previously purchased Ice Chunks and hurl them towards the Dragon.

Strohl's Warrior Archetype will also be very beneficial here, and not just because of the ability to use the Diagonal Slash skill. Warrior Archetypes are resistant to fire damage, which can help reduce the total damage taken. Use Strohl efficiently to help deal additional damage to the enemy.

Finally, use the Protagonist's Dei skill to keep healing the party members. This will help recover health, should the Fire Dragon wreak much havoc and cause extensive HP damage. Keep in mind, however, that this entire battle is optional and can be avoided simply by not walking toward the dragon in the first place.

Your EXP and A-EXP rewards will vary depending on your character level. The guaranteed rewards for defeating the Fire Dragon Mauna are 1000 Money, 1500 MAG, and an Amethyst.
