Upgrading character skills in Darkest Dungeon 2

Darkest Dungeon 2 is a stylish role-playing game (RPG) with a robust turn-based combat system. Battles in this game can get very challenging that warrant upgrading skills to compensate for the difficulty spike. You can use Mastery Points to boost your character skills.

You can partake in Main battles and Road battles to obtain Mastery Points. Do note that Main battles are more challenging than the Road counterparts. As of this writing, there are some drop rates associated with both of them.

Following are the chances of acquiring Mastery Points:

• Main battles: 50% probability to get Mastery Point.
• Road battles: 12.5% drop rate.

After acquiring enough points, you must look for an Inn. These act as hub areas for you to replenish your health and peruse your character skills. It can be time-consuming to come across the first Inn, but you can even upgrade the stagecoach to conserve your time by reaching the Inn quicker.

Once you do get access to the Inn, you can resort to the following steps to upgrade skills:

1. After entering the Inn choose the Mastery Trainer option on the bottom left portion of your screen.
2. Choose your desired character and switch between them using the arrow.
3. You will find all their relevant skills in the boxes below them. Hover over the skills to know their details.
4. Click on the desired skill to acquire it by spending Mastery Points.

Acquiring new skills and abilities in Darkest Dungeon 2

You can obtain new skills for your characters by interacting with Hero Shrines/Shrine of Reflection. You will need to select any particular character manually. This interaction triggers a short segment depicting that character’s backstory and may even require you to engage in combat.

The game also features the Altar of Hope, wherein you must compulsorily spend Candles. You cannot interact with this altar if you don’t possess any Candles. You can gain access to many boosts and abilities via this mechanic as well.
