The Chainsaw is a tool that players will need in Satisfactory's early stages. This tool will come in handy for clearing trees that block areas where you can build factories and paths for your vehicles that transport resources.

Cutting down trees is not just to make space for your buildings, but also to collect wood for a new creation. The best equipment in Satisfactory for this work is the Chainsaw and this article will cover how to use it in the game.

Satisfactory features various milestones that players need to reach by performing certain tasks. One of these tasks is called "Obstacle Clearing". This is part of the tier 2 list and grants the player three inventory spaces and a recipe to make biofuel.

The equipment is part of this milestone and will players will need to spend 100 concrete, 500 screws, and 100 cables to craft the Chainsaw. This equipment runs on biomass, so do store some for yourself.

After the "Obstacle Clearing" milestone has been reached, the equipment will become accessible and you will need a few resources to craft. The equipment will be in the "Tools" section and will require players to have 15 cables, 5 reinforced iron plates, 25 iron rods, and 160 screws to build. After crafting the tool, select it from your inventory and equip it.

That said, the Chainsaw won't work if your inventory lacks the solid biofuel required to power it. After you power up your equipment with solid biofuel, it will become usable, allowing you to cut down trees with no issue. The Chainsaw comes with two modes:

  • Single Mode: This is used when targeting a single bush or tree you want to cut down.
  • Area Mode: This is used when clearing out a larger area by cutting down various bushes and trees at once.

When you are out in the open trying to clear out a large portion, utilize the Area Mode as it will help you clean the area faster. Both modes use the same amount of solid biofuel, so there is no disadvantage to using the Area mode.

Unlike in other games, the Chainsaw in Satisfactory is just a piece of equipment and not a weapon you can use to defend yourself. Ensure that you equip a weapon in your free hand to fight off creatures trying to harm you while you are using the Chainsaw.
