Hu Tao or Nahida: Best character to get in Genshin Impact 5.1 second half

The second half of Genshin Impact 5.1 will begin shortly, with two popular characters getting their rerun banners. 5-Star Pyro unit Hu Tao and 5-Star Dendro Archon Nahida will both have their Event Wish banners available starting October 29, 2024. While both characters have their own competitive advantages, many players might only have enough Primogems saved to wish for only one.

Nahida and Hu Tao have their own niches to fulfill in Genshin Impact 5.1, and as far as their pull value goes, both of them can be put to good use in many teams. That said, both characters have separate advantages, strengths and weaknesses that need to be considered.

Hu Tao: Pros and cons

Hu Tao is a 5-Star Pyro unit who wields a Polearm and deals significant amounts of damage. She functions as a Pyro vape DPS in most team compositions, with her Elemental Burst capable of dealing massive damage. Here are her pros and cons:

Pros:

• Very high Elemental Burst scaling
• Self-healing mechanism
• Can be used both for single-target and AoE enemy lineups
• Scales with HP, making her very easy to build even for newer players

Cons:

• Managing Stamina can be a bit difficult at C0
• Needs to consistently stay at low HP in order to deal more damage
• Constant Charged Attack canceling is necessary to increase her damage output

Overall, Hu Tao is a solid DPS character who can nuke tanky enemies within seconds, provided she has a good Hydro support like Xingqiu or Yelan. If you are willing to work on her Charged Attack cancel in order to manage her stamina (or you can pull for her C1 which eliminates her need to consume Stamina while doing Charged Attacks), you can consider pulling for her.

Nahida: Pros and cons

Nahida is a 5-Star Dendro unit and the Dendro Archon in Genshin Impact. She wields a Catalyst as her weapon of choice.

As with all other Archons, Nahida is an excellent support character, and she functions as a core unit in a huge number of Dendro reaction-oriented team compositions. Here are her pros and cons:

Pros:

• Excellent Dendro application
• Super versatile unit that fits into multiple teams
• Can link multiple enemies together, dealing damage simultaneously
• Passive is very good for overworld material collection
• 100% Elemental Burst uptime if properly played

Cons:

• Not the best character for overworld exploration due to small character model
• Requires high Elemental Mastery stats/substats on artifacts, which might take a while to farm

Overall, Nahida is an incredible Dendro support character who can not only deal decent amounts of Dendro damage but also buff teammates with her Elemental Burst. She is a solid unit at C0 and is also free-to-play-friendly both in terms of her weapons and team compositions.

If you are lacking a good Dendro support, consider pulling for Nahida.

Hu Tao does have more frontloaded damage, thanks to her ability to dish out massive nukes, which Nahida cannot compare with. However, Nahida shines with her excellent Dendro application, ability to link multiple enemies together, and overall partywide buff.

Dendro is now of the strongest elements in Genshin Impact, and Nahida is one of the best Dendro characters in the game. If you have a limited number of Primogems and can't decide which character to go for, the best option is to pull for Nahida. You can get Hu Tao in a future banner.
