The UFL open beta is live for gamers to test out throughout the weekend from June 7 to June 9, 2024, and fans have started weighing in with their opinions on social media. With the game being backed by the five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo himself, there is plenty of hype surrounding the upcoming title, and some believe it could serve as competition for EA Sports FC.
However, with the open beta finally letting fans in on the mechanics and overall feel of the gameplay, the feedback has been pretty divisive. While some are praising the realistic animations, visuals, and mechanics, others are underwhelmed and believe that UFL still has a long way to go before it can challenge EA Sports FC.
With the game still in its beta phase, many are optimistic about UFL having the potential to serve as an alternative to big names like EA Sports FC and the upcoming FIFA 2K game.
However, most are still being very conservative with their predictions, as they believe that there is still a long way for the game to go. X user @STU_SJH in particular believes that despite the game showing promise, it is just "okay" right now and EA FC has nothing to be worried about yet. They also claimed that UFL was worth trying out for console gamers since the foundations for a good game are present:

"I know it's a beta atm. But right now I don't think EAFC have anything to worry about."
While there are certainly shortcomings in the beta's gameplay, some fans are aware of the unpolished state the game is in and are hopeful about the changes in the future. The realistic AI in particular received praise by many on social media. @goldyshyper1 on X claimed that hating the game was not justified. They pointed out how the game was still in its beta stage, but despite this, it was more realistic than the competition. They stated that with the right improvements, UFL could go on to challenge EA games:
Among the main criticisms were the title's graphics and commentary. Some gamers were of the opinion that the gameplay resembled mobile football simulation titles like Dream League Soccer due to the lackluster visuals. Others were much more harsh, claiming that the franchise would not even make it out of GameStop and would fail overall.
Gamers are still optimistic about the future of UFL
Despite these mixed reviews, the beta for the game is off to a good start. The very objective of such a release is to test the title and fix any issues that the gameplay might have. Any criticism or praise will go a long way in ensuring that the final released product has the polish and refinement it needs, giving fans plenty of hope for the future of football simulation games.
