No, Atlas Fallen isn’t going to be an open-world game.

The Surge and Lords of the Fallen developers, Focus Entertainment and Deck13 Interactive, have worked hard on an all-new RPG with high-octane sand-based combat and a devilishly tempting open-world playground—and it's coming our way on May 16, 2023.

What is Atlas Fallen?

Atlas Fallen is a forthcoming action-driven RPG by Deck13 Interactive, a firm best known for its history of cutthroat action-packed projects. In the latest story, players will be introduced to the realm of Atlas, a dismal world where a despotic deity controls an oppressed civilisation that is neither friendly nor prosperous. To transform the "fallen" post-cataclysm biome, you, the rising hero, must resist the obstacles heaped against you and the gods who sculpt the sands you tread on.

“Glide the sands of a timeless land, filled with ancient dangers, mysteries and fragments of the past,” the official blurb reads in part. “Hunt legendary monsters, using powerful, shape-shifting weapons and devastating sand-powered abilities in spectacular, super-powered combat.”

Is Atlas Fallen an open-world game?

Atlas Fallen isn't an open-world game, but Deck13 promises an extensive journey, claiming the action RPG has the most significant gaming environment ever produced. The globe will be separated into several open sections, with players exploring castles, woods, oases, mountain ranges, caverns, and other locations.

What is Atlas Fallen about?

Atlas Fallen transports you to the heart of Atlas, an oppressed society ruled by Thelos, a tyrant who not only reduces its citizens to the moniker "The Unnamed" but also imposes a caste system that forces its workers to collect, mine, and transport Essence to a power-infused city. You will embark on your quest as one of Atlas's last great heroes in an attempt to unify and defy Thelos. The decisions you make and the friends you acquire will determine how you retake the lands and turn the tide against tyranny.

The Narrative Designer, Sabine Neuser at Deck13, told Xbox Wire in an interview, “Our hero’s journey takes him from being an Unnamed to becoming a hero with extraordinary powers that haven’t been seen on Atlas for decades.”

“Throughout the story, as your powers grow, you will gain access to new territories and meet the inhabitants of the settlements scattered in the desert and those who live in the capital. You will meet peasants, military, knights, priests and many more, whether they be a brief encounter or play a recurring role, trying to influence our hero’s quest one way or the other.”
