Is Fallout London free to play?

Fallout London is a completely free-to-play mod, provided that you own Fallout 4 with all its DLCs on Steam or GOG. With the mod's release on GOG (and its proprietary GOG Galaxy Launcher), many have been wondering whether the game will continue to be free to play forever. The answer is yes, even though it currently looks like it's on a giveaway that expires on August.

Will Fallout London continue to be free to play on GOG?

Fallout London was released on GOG as a separate game, with its own store page. If you own Fallout 4 GOTY on this platform, its GOG version can, in fact, act as its own standalone release. You can download it and play the whole game out of the box.

However, GOG has put it on a 'giveaway' that expires on August 1, 2024. This is not indicative of any time-gating shenanigans. There could be two reasons why this is the case:

• The giveaway is a way to promote the mod, as it will be at the front when someone peruses GOG to look for new releases.
• As there are no native mod-hosting systems in GOG, the giveaway is a placeholder way to host the mod. If this is the case, the timer will simply be reset when August comes.

If the latter is not true, Fallout Lodon will likely be categorized as its own game or a DLC to Fallout 4 once the current 'giveaway' period is over. Despite a high production value and a star-studded voice cast, Fallout London will always be a free mod.

Is Fallout London coming to Nexusmods?

At the time of writing, Team FOLON does not have any plans to put Fallout London on Nexusmods.

Nexusmods, one of the biggest mod-hosting platforms in the world, hit the 10 billion downloads milestone earlier this year. Fallout 4 accounts for over one billion of these downloads, and the site has hosted popular DLC-sized mods like Fallout: The Frontier (a total conversion projectt for New Vegas).

However, Fallout London is a behemoth with over 30 gb of original assets and file size. While it could be possible to partition the mod file into several download chunks, Team FOLON chose to go with a much more streamlined approach via GOG Galaxy, which lets you download and play Fallout London in a straightforward manner.

Some assembly is required for Steam users, as you will need to downgrade the base game to a pre-Next Gen version. Those who own Fallout 4 on Epic Games Store, however, really got the short end of the stick. Currently, this free mod is outright incompatible with the Epic Games build.
