Is Ghostrunner 2 coming to Nintendo Switch?

Ghostrunner 2 is set to arrive soon on modern platforms. The sequel to the much-acclaimed 2020 original is a bigger project on all fronts. With Nintendo's iconic hybrid console, the Nintendo Switch, being a favorite among developers, many modern titles are not shying away from coming to the portable device. But does that ring true for 505 Games' latest release?

Given the console is home to many new games and franchises that previously didn't feature on a Nintendo system, there is always a first time.

Is Ghostrunner 2 coming to Nintendo Switch?

Unfortunately, no. Ghostrunner 2 is only arriving on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms. Publisher 505 Games has offered no word on why a Nintendo Switch rendition was omitted. Of course, players' first impression would be that the game is unfeasible on the handheld device, which would not be incorrect.

The game is even skipping last-gen platforms, that is, the PS4 and Xbox One. However, we already have other modern games on the Nintendo Switch. This includes the already-released Mortal Kombat 1 and the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy. The latter is also an Unreal Engine 4 game like Ghostrunner 2.

In fact, it is perhaps more demanding with a bigger and fully fledged open world to explore. So, there is an argument to be made that Ghostrunner 2 could be possible on the Nintendo Switch despite inevitable downgrades.

In fact, the current PC build suffers from technical issues in the form of shader compilation stutters. These grievances plague an otherwise solid experience. Until the developers over at One More Level or one of the technical wizards at porting houses like Panic Button or Saber Interactive give it a shot, a Nintendo Switch port will remain a mystery.

What about the original game?

The first game received a Nintendo Switch port in November 2020. It is a native port and not a cloud one, meaning players can take it with them on the go without an internet connection. That said, it delivers an underwhelming experience, especially on the technical front.

At a target of 30 FPS, it is far less smoother than the other console versions. Thankfully, the experience is stable enough not to be intrusive. For those who do not have access to other platforms, this is still a good enough pick.

On the other hand, the sequel could make its way to the Nintendo Switch 2. The highly anticipated next-gen console from Nintendo is one of the worst-kept secrets in the industry right now. As per rumors and leaks, the upcoming platform is suggested to include raytracing tech. This suggests it has more than enough to run PS5-level games.

But as mentioned before, the device is shrouded in speculation. Ghostrunner 2 launches across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 26, 2023.
