Xbox-exclusive title Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is now in early access. The game is available on Steam and the Xbox Game Store. In theory, every game that is available on Steam can be played on the Steam Deck, Steam's very own handheld gaming machine. That said, how well does the game run on Steam Deck? Let's find out.

While after its release in 2022, you could play countless titles on the Steam Deck, now in 2024, the graphical demands of most titles are way too high. So much so that the Steam Deck is starting to show signs of old age. While you can load Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on Steam Deck, the title's gameplay is almost unplayable on the device.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle demands hefty system requirements

Indiana Jones and Great Circle is one of the first games that demands ray-tracing. The game is built on id Tech 7 and not Unreal Engine 5. This game engine requires a lot more CPU and GPU power. That means that the game requires a beefy graphics card which will not be present in the Steam Deck.

The minimum system requirements of the game demand a 2060 Super and i-7 10700K whereas the Steam Deck comes with an Aerith APU. While the game loads on the device, you would barely get 20-25 FPS, that too, on the lowest settings. And if more elements pop up in the game, the Steam Deck would have a really hard time running the game. Even the cutscenes do not run on 30 FPS.

While the default resolution of a Steam Deck is 1280x800, you will not be able to run 30 FPS for the title even if you reduce the resolution to 960x600. If you still want to play on the Steam Deck, you can use Nvidia's cloud gaming service GeForce Now. However, do note that this requires a stable and fast internet connection.
