Monster Hunter Wilds is right around the corner with a release window scheduled for February 28, 2025. With the new trailers and showcases, the title seems to be one of the biggest and most in-depth entries in the beloved franchise so far. However, the showcases have also made fans wonder: will it have any direct relation to the previous entries in the series?
If you are wondering the same, then unfortunately, the answer is, No, Monster Hunter Wilds is not a direct sequel to Monster Hunter World. At best, Wilds can be considered a spiritual successor to Monster Hunter World. Other than some visual and ideological similarities, there isn’t much in common between the titles.

With the initial announcement, many players thought the game would continue the story of Monster Hunter Rise. Although Rise was a success both critically and financially, Monster Hunter World is still considered one of the benchmark entries in the franchise. That's why Wilds not being a direct sequel to World has disappointed a lot of fans, who have been anticipating a sequel for this title for a long time.

However, from the trailer, it seems like Monster Hunter Wilds will take a lot of inspiration from the World and follow in its footsteps. According to the showcases we have gotten so far, it is hinted that Monster Hunter Wilds may have an open-world map that features dynamic weather systems that dictate the monsters' behaviors.
Like World, the monsters featured in Wilds also interact with each other. Carnivorous monsters actively prey upon other monsters, herd animals travel in groups, and react when their alpha or pack leader is attacked or killed. In Monster Hunter Wilds, players can also use the surrounding environment to trap or disorient their targets to get an upper hand.

According to some speculations from the community, there are also subtle hints present in the armor and other gear designs in Monster Hunter Wilds that indicate a potential connection between Wilds and Wolrd. However, nothing can be said for sure right now.
In the end, even after all the hype and initial praise, we will still have to wait until the official release to see if Monster Hunter Wilds is successful in achieving the same level of success as Monster Hunter World.
