The engaging personalities that populate and lend life to this post-apocalyptic world are one of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West's greatest qualities. Characters generally range from the vilest to the most real and honorable, with many falling somewhere in between. That is where Nil lies, and many fans are asking what happened to the Horizon Zero Dawn character in Forbidden West.
Who is Nil in Horizon Zero Dawn?
Nil, a former Carja soldier, is obsessed with fighting to the point of adopting a nasty disposition. He kills bandits for sport to fulfill his bloodlust without fear of retaliation. He defends this by claiming that bandits are disposable and live filthy lifestyles. This type of thinking has been identified by Aloy as 'doing the right thing for the wrong reasons'.
During the reign of Sun-King Jiram, he was a soldier and on his succession to the throne, Jiram's son Avad attempted to eliminate anyone loyal to the previous king and his harsh reign. As a result of his previous war crimes, Nil was sentenced to prison. Nil began hunting bandits after his release to fulfill his passion for warfare.
On his adventures, he occasionally encounters Aloy, with whom he frequently collaborates to raid bandit camps. Ultimately, there are no more camps to plunder, prompting Nil to challenge Aloy to a duel. If Aloy accepts, Nil will die as a result of the duel. If Aloy declines, Nil will fight with Aloy against the corrupted machines during The Looming Darkness.
Where can Nil be found in Horizon Forbidden West?
Nil traveled to the Forbidden West after the events of Horizon Zero Dawn, knowing that as a Carja in the clan lands, he would attract the notice of Tenakth searching for a fight. When he observed the riders, he was immediately hooked to the adrenaline of racing, and he adopted the alias "Red Teeth" to compete. This reveals that Nil's fate in Horizon Zero Dawn is not death in a duel with Aloy, but rather survival and participation in the battle for Meridian.
Nil immediately discovered that he enjoyed the tough and deadly nature of the Gauntlet Runs. According to him, he spent the majority of his adult life hunting for combat in order to experience the thrills of fighting. He doesn't have to wait for wars or fights to encounter near-death situations with racing.
