Prince of Persia The Lost Crown is the newest entry within the POP franchise. It is a standalone title that shifts its focus back to 2D platforming. Ubisoft has developed this as a Metroidvania game, and it works marvelously. The game is challenging, combat is fantastic, and the platforming in Prince of Persia has never been better.

And no, The Lost Crown is not a remake of the original game. Prince of Persia (1989), which many believe The Lost Crown is a remake of, functions very differently from this title. Moreover, Metroidvanias had just barely started making it to the scene when the original Prince of Persia was released during the late 1980s.

The game served as an excellent 2D side scroller and was appreciated for its revolutionary animations. Moreover, It has already been remade for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and was released as Prince of Persia Classic back in 2007.

The only remake that is currently under development at Ubisoft is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. However, there have not been any updates on the game recently. The Sands of Time Remake has already had a disastrous development cycle. The game was originally announced back in 2020; it was being developed by Ubisoft India at the time.

However, the game's reveal trailer was met with plenty of backlash. Fans of the franchise were unhappy with the somewhat awry visuals. Many complained that such a timeless classic deserves a better quality remake than the one they were getting.

Since then, development has shifted to Ubisoft Montreal, with November 2023 being the first time we heard anything about the game after a long time. Many still believe that it will not see the light of day. However, there has been no word from Ubisoft about it being canceled, so there is still hope.
