Is it worth buying Phantasmal Doll in Metaphor ReFantazio?

Being an RPG, Metaphor ReFantazio has an incredibly detailed story, and to supplement it includes a whole host of side content and items for players to find and use. Though some items can be equipped by finding them across the vast game world, others may need to be bought or earned by defeating certain enemies.

One example is the Phantasmal Doll, which is available for purchase early into the game's story mode. This item can raise doubts in players' minds, given its expensive cost. Here is our take on whether it is worth purchasing for the purposes of gameplay.

Is it worth purchasing the Phantasmal Doll in Metaphor ReFantazio?

Available at Gloamhall in Grand Trad, the Phantasmal Doll is available for an eye-watering 49,000 Reeves to be purchased. Even with the Idlesday discount of 20% on all products sold across the United Kingdom of Euchronia, the doll's price comes down to 39,200 Reeves.

The description simply informs players that it allows "two consecutive actions” in a row during battle. This may sound great, but note that it will utilize one complete turn for each action. What this effectively means, is that the character benefitted by the Doll's effects will get two turns, while the character who would act after them will have to forfeit their turn as a result.

This may be beneficial in a situation where a particular character can deal extensive damage to the boss, and where it may be beneficial to let another character usurp their turn. Despite this, the extremely high cost does not justify the purchase, especially not early in the game. Adding onto this, it is almost always better to have all party members playable during battle, which this doesn't allow for.

It is, hence, not recommended to purchase the Phantasmal Doll given the combination of its high cost, and the effective takeover of another character's turn in the process. At a lower cost, the item may have been recommendable, though even at the Idlesday cost it's a tough sell.
