Days Gone has everything that action fans want in a zombie video game. You play as a lone wolf in a world filled with hoards of undead filth — ready for you to eliminate in all kinds of creative and violent ways using the tools you have at your disposal. However, six years after its initial release on PS4 and four years since its PC release, the question stands — is Days Gone still worth playing in 2025?

The answer is absolutely yes. This game is criminally underrated and underappreciated, and the fact that Sony has no plans for continuing the franchise is truly a tragedy in the gaming industry. In this article, I have shared all the reasons why you should play Days Gone in 2025.

Why should you play Days Gone in 2025

The story follows Deacon St. John’s journey to find his wife, presumed dead after a global pandemic. While many critics initially said that the story of the game is very bland and doesn’t have much emotional depth, players came torch blazing and defended it as one of the good sides of the game. Days Gone’s main selling point is its gameplay and the story has just enough depth it needs.

Furthermore, the game features a decently sized open-world post-apocalyptic setting, combined with the gameplay mechanics of survival, stealth, and combat, that will give you the feel of an MGS game — except with higher stakes and more restrictive tools.

Additionally, you fight hordes of Freakers (zombie-like creatures) — where you have the freedom of strategizing your approach towards making short work of these brainless freaks.

One of my favorite aspects of the game is Deacon’s Drifter Bike. This loyal ride will be your primary method of transport as well as your get-out ticket in many rough situations. You will need to constantly manage fuel, repairs, and upgrades to keep it running, and always ready to help you get out of rough situations.

Although the game had a rocky launch, due to the constant bugs and choppy frames on PS4 — patches and fixes quickly addressed these issues. This makes it another good reason to play the game in 2025 — as on a PS5 or a decent PC — it runs extremely well and smoothly.

In the end, if you like consistent action and killing hordes of zombies in creative ways while exploring a post-apocalyptic world on your bike, then Days Gone is the game for you. However, if you are looking for a great story with emotional depth — then I recommend you should avoid this one.

Lastly — if you decide to play the game — don’t forget to check your gun locker for that crossbow at the start.
