Just like the majority of Gacha games, Zenless Zone Zero also claims to be F2P. For the uninitiated, F2P stands for Free-to-Play. While Zenless Zone Zero is completely free to download and play, there are a lot of in-game transaction options, which can make one wonder if it’s free or if spending real-life money will become a necessity.
That said, Zenless Zone Zero is F2P friendly. While you can use the purchase mechanics to progress in the game faster, you won't necessarily need to spend any money in Zenless Zone Zero if you don't mind a bit of grinding.

Why is Zenless Zone Zero F2P-friendly?

In Zenless Zone Zero, you unlock your character by pulling from the gacha pools. The characters are divided into tiers, with S being the highest. The higher the rank, the harder it is to pull the character. But unlike most new gacha games, Zenless Zone Zero is quite generous when comes to their gacha elements.
Many players have shared that they have pulled S ranks only after a few draw 10s. Zenless Zone Zero also has a mechanic called the Mindscape Cinema where the game rewards you for having duplicates of a character. If you manage to pull six dupes of a single Agent, you can use them to unlock the maximum potential of that Agent and their secret artwork.

Even the Mindscape Cinema (MC) is not necessary in the title. You can easily progress through 90% of the game with the base forms of high-tier characters. Even if you manage to get a full team of MC6 A-tier characters, you will still struggle against a team consisting of S tiers. Thus, focus on pulling higher-tier agents.
Zenless Zone Zero has a sub-mechanic called the Bangboos, which are cute mascot-like characters that can boost the power of your agents. Banboos need to be farmed and most of them are free. Many players have claimed that Zenless Zone Zero is a little more generous compared to other HoYoverse titles like Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail.
In my opinion, Zenless Zone Zero is very F2P friendly as long as you keep a check on your spending. Progressing indeed becomes much easier with purchases and the game also rewards you for it, but you can progress in Zenless Zone Zero without having to spend any real-world money.
