Overwatch 2 offers a variety of game modes to the players such as quick play, Arcade, competitive, and more. To balance out the game modes so each match will not be unfair for everyone, the developers use various methods to achieve that, one of which is SBMM (Skill Based Matchmaking). Since competitive matches are mostly scaled with each player’s ranks, quick play also resorts to SBMM for a fair match.
A Reddit user u/FPSDab started questioning the Overwatch 2 quick play SBMM since they feel like the QP matches are one-sided and the matchmaking is not working properly. They further claimed that Ranked offers a better experience than QP due to the unbalanced matchmaking.
An Overwatch 2 player, u/Wolfelle claims that this is happening due to the quality of Competitive matches dropping drastically. They further stated that they hail from the Masters rank and appreciate quick play because Competitive is not enjoyable.

The Reddit user u/AdmiralBumHat expressed their frustration of not having solo matchmaking. They further stated:
"I wish we had a solo queue. That way both teams would be disadvantaged. When I play I always have the feeling I am going solo against fixed groups of 3 or 4 that are playing every evening for 4 hours over voice while my team get butchered and picked off by a bee swarm from one target to the next. lol"
Another user u/n1451 stated that both Quick Play and Competitive are the same for them.
"For me it’s the same quality. But competitive is worse because if your team is bad you are forced to play two rounds with them."
User u/0roku claims that matchmaking has always been like this.
“It’s always been like this.”
Another fan, u/Sensitive_Beating says that the matchmaking for their case has been the exact opposite. They claim that they get more balanced matches every session, while in comp it's like two or three bad matches every 10 games.
An Overwatch 2 player, u/Common_Lime_6167 stated that the matchmaking gets much worse after each ban wave because people are leveling up their new accounts. They said:
"It usually gets worse after a ban wave bc people are levelling their new cheat/smurf/throw accounts."
Does Quick Play have SBMM in Overwatch 2?
Yes, Quick Play does have SBMM in Overwatch 2. To make sure players have a good match every time they decide to load into the game, the SBMM takes account of every players’ MMR (Matchmaking Rating) and puts players into matches depending on their MMR.
If you think your matches are hard recently or struggling to perform well when it's not the case all the time, then your MMR may have increased. This means you will now be placed into a lobby with a high MMR that matches your skill level.
