Jayce is a bright inventor who has dedicated his life to Piltover's protection and an unwavering pursuit of advancement. He uses his strength, courage, and significant intellect to protect his hometown while wielding his morphing hextech hammer. As a result, he is regarded as a hero across the city, but Jayce is not fond of the spotlight. But his heart is in the right place, in such a way that even those who envy his abilities appreciate his guardianship in the City of Progress.
Who is Jayce?
Jayce, a Piltover native, was raised to believe in the ideas that made the city great: invention, discovery, and avoiding Zaun at all costs. Jayce was the youngest apprentice to ever be awarded sponsorship by one of Piltover's most respected governing clans, thanks to his aptitude for comprehending mechanics. He spent most of his childhood building prospective hextech devices and creating transformable multi-tools for Piltover's working class. Anything Jayce touched put his peers to shame, albeit only Viktor could equal Jayce's brilliance.
They met at a party and began working together soon after. This aided the two men since Viktor broadened Jayce's intellectual boundaries and called many of his ideas into question. Unlike Jayce, who tried to better humanity through adaptable technology, Viktor attempted to overcome difficulties inherent in humanity. The collaboration fell apart after Viktor developed a chemtech implant that increased the user's strength at the expense of their free will. Jayce was banished and outcast after warning the academy about Viktor's creation.
This weighed heavily on Jayce because Viktor was the closest thing he had to a friend, and the inventor became increasingly isolated as his patience with people dwindled. However, Clan Giopara's scouts uncovered a raw, blue crystal during this time, but owing to Jayce's attitude, he was not allowed to study it. That changed months later when the scholars were unable to locate anything, but Jayce was convinced otherwise when the crystal was presented to him. He spent months exploring with no success, which changed Jayce's perspective on others after he continued hitting walls after walls.

But Jayce discovered a solution by conducting invasive tests on a smaller fragment, which resulted in the crystal exploding with a burst of light. It led Jayce to believe that the crystal was possibly dangerous, but he persisted in his work on it. Yet, not quite a few hours later, Viktor appeared and tried to persuade Jayce that he required the crystal for "Glorious Evolution," but Jayce refused. Viktor attacked Jayce, knocking him unconscious and stole the crystal, but Jayce chased him with the smaller shard guiding him to the larger piece a few hours later.
When he arrived, he was astounded to find hundreds of corpses, their skulls sawed open and hollowed out. Their minds were also implanted into an army of immovable metal troops who were linked to the now-pulsing crystal. Jayce realized he might be forced to kill Viktor at this point, and as he approached him, he tried to reason with him, but all Viktor muttered was a command aimed at his machines, "Kill him."
Jayce was able to fight his way past the automatons with the use of a small crystal shard and a hammer, eventually smashing the crystal. However, this resulted in the structure collapsing, with Jayce narrowly escaping. Viktor's body was never discovered while Jayce was dubbed the “Defender of Tomorrow” after he told Piltover and his clan masters of Viktor’s plans.

Hextech Capacitor
Jayce boosts movement speed for a short time when he shifts between Mercury Hammer and Mercury Cannon. Jayce gains 40 extra movement speed and ghosting for 1.5 seconds every time he swaps stances with this passive talent.
To the Skies! / Shock Blast
This active skill allows Jayce to leap to the target enemy's position, slamming his Hammer on the ground upon arrival, delivering physical damage on all nearby opponents. To the Skies can also temporarily slow down surrounding opponents for 2 seconds.
During Cannon Stance, the skill changes to "Shock Blast," in which Jayce fires a lightning sphere that explodes when it collides with enemy units, delivering physical damage to all opponents.
Lightning Field / Hypercharge
Passive: The passive feature of Lightning Field is that it helps Jayce's basic attacks on-hit recover mana faster.
Active: When used, Jayce will be surrounded by an electric field for 4 seconds, delivering magic damage on surrounding enemy units. Jayce will acquire a burst of energy during Cannon Stance, raising his attack speed to the maximum for three attacks.
Thundering Blow / Acceleration Gate
Jayce uses Thundering Blow to swing his Mercury Hammer at opposing units, causing magical damage. Against hostile monsters and minions, damage is usually limited. Thundering Blow, in effect, will move the opponent 500 units away from Jayce.
Jayce releases an Acceleration Gate during Cannon Stance, increasing the mobility of his allied champions who pass through it. Shock Blast, when sent through the Acceleration Gate, increases missile speed, range, and damage.
Transform Mercury Cannon
When triggered, Jayce's Mercury Hammer transforms into the "Mercury Cannon." It grants him access to his powers, including 500-yard ranged assaults.
When Jayce attacks, Transform Mercury Cannon decreases his target's armor and magic resistance by 10% to 25% for 5 seconds. Jayce frequently begins the game with Transform but is unable to raise its rank.
