During the recent RGG Summit, Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii was revealed as the next entry in the long-standing Yakuza franchise. Set near the events of Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, it deals with the aftermath of the crisis on Nele Island but focuses on everyone’s favorite Mad Dog, Goro Majima. As the star of the game, he washes up on an island near Hawaii, with no memory at all.

Featuring thrilling action combat, pirate ships, and Goro Majima taking center stage, Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is an incredibly exciting prospect. Only a little bit is known about the game, thanks to the recent trailer. This article covers the details.

Goro Majima stars in Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, launching in February 2025

Set after Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii releases on February 28, 2025. This time, Goro Majima finally has a game all to himself. Washed up with amnesia on Rich Island, the Mad Dog of Shimano gets mixed up in a story centered around the events that took place on Nele Island, and of course, pirates.

Ultimately, Goro Majima becomes a pirate captain and finds himself setting sail for the mysterious Madlantis, home to pirates, vagabonds, and other criminals. Through the trailer, players learn that Madlantis is now under the control of several criminal organizations, led by Queen Michele.

Apart from sailing and cruising the seas and getting to Madlantis’ mysterious shores, Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii also showed Goro Majima fighting his way through the streets of Hawaii proper. This is an action-based game compared to the turn-based RPGs that Ichiban starred in. One of the characters in the trailer even looks to be modeled after Samoa Joe, last seen in a video game for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Combat looks far more intense than in previous Like a Dragon games

Between the Mad Dog Style and Sea Dog Style, combat appears to be way faster and more ferocious than previous games. This makes sense, considering the speed and deadly nature of Goro Majima’s fighting style compared to Kiryu.

Unlike previous Yakuza titles, Goro Majima can jump and do incredibly powerful air combos, juggling and sliding across the battlefield like a demon. It looks to be an evolution of his combat in Yakuza 0. Each combat style is different and should be a blast to use.

Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will feature several mini-games

Like any good Yakuza game, Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will also feature plenty of mini-games. Already confirmed are Dragon Kart and Crazy Eats — the bicycling mini-game Ichiban took part in while in Hawaii.

Karaoke is also back along with a minigame called “Marasu’s Love Journey - My Dream Minato Girl." Not much is known about this, but it may be an evolution of the dating app used in Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth. In addition, there are plenty of cosmetics to unlock for Majima, including his popular "Goromi" outfit.

More information is expected to be released over the next few months, but fans can look forward to a game starring Goro Majima on February 28, 2025.
