Lords of the Fallen sticks quite close to its Souls-like roots, which is why there are certain mechanics like Stun and Backstab which will allow you to have an easier time during some of the hardest encounters. However, pulling these off is easier said than done, and it’s not all that surprising why there are many in the community who are looking to learn more about these combat mechanics.

Both Stun and Backstab play into each other in Lords of the Fallen, and once you have been able to master them, you will more-or-less speed run through much of the content in the game.

Today’s Lords of the Fallen guide will, therefore, go over everything you need to know about the Stun and Backstab mechanics in the latest Souls-like.

Lords of the Fallen Stun guide: How to break posture?

To stun an enemy, you will first be required to break their posture in Lords of the Fallen. To be able to do so, you must either kick them, parry or hit them with a string of Light or Charged Heavy Attacks.

The posture bar is denoted with a white bar on top of the enemy HP; once you have been able to deplete it, the enemy will stagger and go into a stunned state, opening them up for a stab animation.

Posture break with kicks:

To kick an enemy in Lords of the Fallen, you will need to press Shift and the Left Mouse button at the same time on PC. On Xbox, you will need to tap LB + RB, and on the PlayStation, it will be L1 + R2.

Kicking enemies will do a great deal of posture damage and, at times, deplete it completely, staggering them.

Parry to break postures:

Parry is when you deflect an incoming enemy attack just before it lands. To parry an enemy attack in Lords of the Fallen, you will need to:

  • Tap Shift on PC
  • Tap LB on Xbox
  • Tap L1 on PS

Light and Charged attacks to break posture:

If you approach an unaware enemy from behind, you will be able to instantly break their posture and stun them by dealing a Charged Heavy Attack (a lot like Bloodborne), To perform a Charged Heavy Attack, you will need to press and hold:

  • Right-click mouse button on PC
  • RT on Xbox
  • R2 on PS

When in combat, chaining light attacks as well as heavy attacks also depletes the enemy's posture bar. However, it will be significantly slower compared to the instant posture break from a Charged Heavy Attack on their back.

How to Backstab and Frontstab enemies in Lords of the Fallen

After you stun enemies with a posture break, you will be able to open them up to a Forntstab or a Backstab, dealing massive damage to them.

The system is a lot like the Visceral mechanic in Bloodborne, and after breaking their posture, you will be able to perform a Backstab on them from behind or a Frontstab if they are facing you.

To perform it, you will need to tap the basic attack button when they are stunned, and your character will perform it automatically.
