Marcus in Reverse 1999 is the upcoming Plant Afflatus Arcanist in the version 1.7 Phase Two update. Players can obtain her by pulling on the banner, Reading in Sea Breeze, which will be available from August 1, at 05:00 UTC-5 to August 15, 2024, at 04:59 UTC-5. She will have a boosted drop rate in the banner with the other two 5-star Arcanists, Star Afflatus Charlie and Beast Afflatus Dikke.

Marcus in Reverse 1999: Skills overview
Marcus in Reverse 1999 is a DPS character who can inflict Mental damage with his skills. She can inflict Burst Damage, gain Eureka, debuff enemies, and more with her skills. Players can find the Marcus’s skills overview below:
- Reading Class (Skill 1): Reading Class causes Marcus to deal damage to a single enemy. Additionally, she gains a Penetration Rate while using this skill.
- From The Lantern (Skill 2): It is a skill that deals damage to two enemies. Additionally, Marcus deals 30% additional damage to enemies under the Annotate status. From The Lantern also inflicts one stack of Weakness if it hits enemies.
- Next Chapter (Ultimate Skill): Marcus deals mass attack to all enemies and 200% additional damage to those under the Annotate status. She also gains one stack of Preparation - Marcus and two Eurekas.
Explanation of effects
- Annotate: She gains one Eureka per round while taking an action. It can trigger up to three times per round and (can’t be dispelled).
- Weakness: When Marcus attacks, she deals 25% extra damage as a bonus (-1 stack after trigger).
- Preparation - Marcus: At the start of the next round, Marcus generates a Rank 1 Precast Incantation (card): Reading Class. Marcus can only gain one Precast Incantation through preparation every round. Players can merge this extra card or use it to deal damage.
Marcus’s Passive or Inheritance is Read The Page. At Insight I, it gives 1 Eureka to Marcus. Additionally, if no enemy has the Annotate status effect, she inflicts this status effect on an enemy, prioritizing bosses.
If Marcus has two or more Eureka, spend as many Eureka as possible to randomly upgrade his incantations. She uses two Eureka to upgrade rank 1 card to rank 2 and three Eureka to upgrade rank 2 card to rank 3 (Marcus prioritizes lower-ranked cards to upgrade).
At Insight II, his attack boosts when entering the battle. At Insight III, she gains one Eureka while entering the battles and another at the start of the round. If there are three or more allies with either Plant, Intelligence, and/or Spirit Afflatus, she gains the Perusal status effect (gets removed if requirements aren’t met).
When the Perusal status effect is active, she gains one Moxie while casting a rank 2 or 3 cards. Marcus in Reverse 1999 must be upgraded to Insight III to become a lethal Arcanist. His ability to gain Moxie will allow him to cycle his Ultimate Skill, Next Chapter, the highest source of her damage.

Best teammates for Marcus in Reverse 1999
Marcus’ effect at Insight III makes him synergize excellently with Plant, Spirit, and Intelligence Afflatus enemies. Players can use Intelligence Afflatus 6, Plant Afflatus Druvis III, An-an Lee, and Enma for the Support role. For Sub-DPS, they can use Spirit Afflatus Isolde and Plant Afflatus La Source for the Healer role.

Should you pull Marcus in Reverse 1999?
Marcus in Reverse 1999 is an excellent damage-dealer for the Plant Afflatus. Her damage is impressive, especially against Raid bosses in Mane’s Bulletin game mode. She will be a top-notch investment for players with a robust roster of Plant, Spirit, and Intelligence Afflatus Arcanists.
Regardless, they can use and invest in Marcus, as she will be a great DPS for the Plant content. As for Portrays, her best Portrays levels are P2 and P4. P2 (Portray level 2) allows her to upgrade rank two cards to rank three with two Eurekas. P4 gives him two additional Eurekas at the start of the round.
Marcus is robust at P0 or without any portraits, so players can pull and build her for battles. The upcoming patches will also include a character that dovetails excellently with Marcus. So, players can build their team around Marcus and use her to progress.
