The Marvel Rivals community recently took to the r/marvelrivals subreddit to discuss their favorite characters that could get introduced in the game. Among them, Yondu was a popular choice, and fans even had his abilities ready with the concept of making him a Duelist in the game.
Doctor Octopus, however, was the most popular choice for a Vanguard. His abilities and catchphrases were discussed in detail, showing how popular he was. Users commented that the villain could use his tentacles to attack and achieve some sort of advanced movement; it was interesting to see how detailed the descriptions were.
After seeing the concepts, user u/Virtual-Estate-8018 pointed out how amazing the ideas were. They said:

"This would be fire ngl"
It was interesting to see the sheer number of Doc Ock fans in the community. Another user, u/yamaci17, quickly stated how they would also be interested to see Doctor Octopus as a Vanguard in Marvel Rivals:
"I want doc ock as a vanguard"
The most fascinating part about this post was that some fans even had Doc Ock’s ability concepts ready. User u/Alternative_Sea_4208 posted a detailed list of all his ideas, including his concepts for Doctor Octopus’s ability kit.
Many, including user u/MineCad, discussed how Doctor Octopus' interaction with Iron Man would go in Marvel Rivals. They were particularly interested in this since Tony achieved what Otto Octavius could not achieve ‘‘in a cave with a box of scraps.’’ For context, Tony successfully made a working arc reactor to power his suit but Doc Ock failed in his attempts to create a perpetual energy source while looking to achieve a similar outcome.
They stated:
"Now I want to imagine what his interaction with Tony would be, given that he did what Otto couldn't.... in a cave with a box of scraps"
Finally, some were talking about his most popular catchphrase, “THE POWER OF THE SUN… IN THE PALM OF MY HAND,” which led to user u/HiveOverlord2008 commenting how it would be amazing if NetEase hired Alfred Molina to do the voice lines, as they felt nobody could do it better.
What is a Vanguard in Marvel Rivals?
Vanguards are nothing but tank heroes in Marvel Rivals. The game's characters are categorized into three groups depending on their specialties:
- Vanguard: High-health heroes tasked with being the front-runner of their team, absorbing damage and creating space.
- Duelist: Low-health heroes with a primary weapon and/or abilities that deal massive damage.
- Strategist: Low-health heroes with healing and other stat-boosting abilities.
This covers all the hero classes in NetEase’s new third-person shooter.
