Marvel Rivals Season 1 is approaching fast, set to launch on January 10, 2025, at 1:10 am PST. The game's Creative Director, Guangguang, and the Lead Combat Designer, Zhiyong, recently appeared in a YouTube video to discuss the upcoming season. During the discussion, Guangguang revealed a key detail that Season 1 will feature double the playable content of a regular season. This suggests that future seasons of Marvel Rivals will likely include less content compared to Season 1.

This article will delve into Guangguang's statement and explain why Season 1 includes such an extensive amount of content.

Exploring why Marvel Rivals Season 1 offers twice the playable content of a regular season

Marvel Rivals Season 1 will be a massive update that will go on for three months, divided into two halves, each lasting six to seven weeks. As the first major content drop, this season introduces a wealth of new elements, including new heroes, maps, modes, and significant game-balancing changes.

The seasons after this first one will have less content, as suggested by Guangguang:

"This Two-in-One Season features double the playable content of a regular season."

Guangguang further explains,

"The Fantastic Four are Marvel's first family and each heroic member is bursting with personality and power. During out brainstorming sessions, we unanimously agreed that bringing them into Marvel Rivals in one giant-size season was a way to go."

This statement implies that future seasons will feature half the content of Season 1. The reason behind this huge update is the inclusion of the Fantastic Four, Marvel's first family.

Each member of the Fantastic FourMister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing — has unique abilities and personalities. According to the Creative Director, during brainstorming sessions, the team decided to introduce all four heroes in a single season, making it particularly expansive. Guangguang referred to this as a "Two-in-One" season.

Incorporating new characters into the game is a complex process, requiring meticulous balancing to ensure they integrate well with the game without disrupting gameplay. This likely explains why future seasons will feature fewer hero additions. Starting with Season 1, the Fantastic Four will join the game roster in phases. In the first half, Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman will be introduced, followed by Human Torch and The Thing in the second half.

Season 1 will also include three new maps:

  1. Empire of Eternal Night: Sanctum Sanctorum
  2. Empire of Eternal Night: Midtown
  3. Empire of Eternal Night: Central Park

Given the scale of this update, it is reasonable to expect fewer maps and heroes in future seasons. For instance, future seasons may introduce only two heroes or villains, one in each half of the season.

Apart from the significant content additions, the upcoming season will introduce several quality and preference improvements. One notable enhancement is the inclusion of a new graphics option designed to get higher frame rates, catering to the needs of competitive players. This feature is a result of player feedback gathered by developers.

Additionally, support for mouse acceleration settings will be introduced, allowing players to customize their controls to suit their preferences. A Streamer Mode is also planned for release during the first half of Season 1, enabling streamers to broadcast Marvel Rivals more effectively.
