Metaphor ReFantazio: How to defeat Gideaux

Throughout Metaphor ReFantazio, you’ll have to deal with contenders to the throne, such as Gideaux. A representative of the church, he’ll be a tough customer, especially considering that you can’t directly attack him. As one of the people seeking the throne, he’s completely protected by the King’s Blessing; you aren’t as fortunate as him quite yet, though.

Having the right Affinities in the game to deal with the Gideaux boss fight will be essential, as with every boss battle in this RPG. While not a lengthy or challenging fight, it is an important one for setting the stage of the challenges to come. Here’s how to deal with Gideaux.

Should you help Glodell with Gideaux in Metaphor ReFantazio?

The most important thing about the Gideaux boss fight in Metaphor ReFantazio is whether you should even step in and aid. Just say “Yes.” It will be to your benefit, even if Glodell is incredibly paranoid.

It will aid you since the goal right now is to ingratiate yourself to Louis. Glodell is one of Louis’s henchmen, so assisting him is the right call, even if Glodell himself won’t be too appreciative of you stepping in to fight his battle for him.

Tips for defeating Gideaux in Metaphor ReFantazio

You cannot directly harm Gideaux in Metaphor ReFantazio, so focus on the two allies he brought to the battle. He also has a Mage Monk and Spearmonk with him—defeat the Mage first.

Their spells can be incredibly frustrating to deal with. The Mage Monk resists basically every spell, so you’ll want to use Physical attacks. In my case, it was Hulkenberg as a Brawler, one of the best followers you have. My party was very magic heavy, so I had to cast spells at the Mage Monk either way—Mage, Brawler, Healer.

Don’t underestimate this boss fight, though. The Mage Monk has a powerful AoE Ice attack, and if you’re weak to it, it’s really going to hurt. It can also use Wind Magic, so be careful of that, too. Gideaux will occasionally attack as well, using a light-based attack in both single-target and AoE flavors.

The Spearmonk has an attack that lowers defenses and also deals a ton of direct damage, so it’s not going to be a walk in the park. The Spearmonk is weak to Ice Magic, so having Strohl as a Mage here was incredibly beneficial to me.

Make sure that, before 6/26 in-game time, you have plenty of healing/reviving items, as well as a few Ice items, just in case. You also have to look out for Gideaux using Mage Benevolence, which is an incredibly powerful AoE Heal.

It can be quite annoying to whittle away at his allies, only to see them get almost healed to full. Just keep poking down one ally at a time, and you’ll eventually triumph. When both of his allies are defeated, the battle ends. You can target either one of them first - I prefer to defeat the Spearmonk first with magic attacks, then focus on the Mage.

Your reward is knowing you helped Glodell out. Tell him that you “wanted to help,” and then you’ll have a conversation involving Louis. Inform him that you’re the candidate and that you became one to help him. He’ll appreciate that, and you can move on with the story.
