Metaphor ReFantazio New Game+ explained

Metaphor ReFantazio is the newest turn-based JRPG on the market, created by Sega and Atlus, the masters of the formula and the makers of another popular JRPG series, Persona. The game includes a very detailed campaign mode, and within it has a whole host of side content and quests for players to enjoy across the vast map.

A feature popular with many RPGs is the ability to replay the game in a New Game+ state. New Game+ means playing the story a second time, but with all the items, skills, and unlocks earned in the first playthrough. The title includes this feature. Here's all you need to know.

Note that New Game+ can only be unlocked once the game's true ending has been achieved. Should either of the bad endings play through, a screen will pop up saying "Fantasy is Dead," a situation in which the said feature cannot be started. Additionally, of the five difficulty settings in the game, the most challenging mode, "Regicide," can only be unlocked in New Game+.

To create a New Game+ save, go to the main menu after the credits roll on the story. Then, select the "Clear Data" save file, which allows you to start a New Game+ playthrough.

Below is a list of everything that carries over:

• Total playtime
• Archetype progression (archetypes still need to be unlocked again)
• All the Reeve and MAG earned
• All Gold Beetles
• All the Memorandum entries found
• All items acquired (with the exception of some story items)
• All Royal Virtues

Note that Archetypes need to be unlocked again to continue their rank progression. In terms of additional content, there is only one new boss players can encounter: the Redscale Dragon. The battle can be accessed via the Book of the Apocalypse, found in Akademia.

Although the fight is visible even during the first playthrough, upon selecting it, More suggests players not to proceed with it. This restriction is removed in New Game+. Do note that this boss cannot be challenged in the Storyteller difficulty mode.
