We highly recommend accepting the Haunted Heirloom quest from a Resentful Noble in Sunlumeo Street. Both quests take place in the same dungeon, so you can complete them in the same location. Picking up this second quest also lets you ignore a game-breaking bug that makes the Skullduggery quest impossible to complete.
How to complete the Skullduggery quest in Metaphor ReFantazio
The Skullduggery quest's main objective is to gather eight Mortaskulls, dropped by Skeleton Soldiers found within the Grand Cathedral Mausoleum (Catacombs). After accepting the quest, head inside the Grand Cathedral Mausoleum filled with coffins that spawn the Skeleton Soldiers when you go near them.
These enemies drop the Mortaskulls you need. Skeleton Soldiers are weak to Light and Strike damage, making certain archetypes especially useful for this quest.

Some of the best Archetypes to take into this fight are
- Healer : Specializes in Light damage, ideal for taking down Skeleton Soldiers quickly.
- Brawler: Strike damage experts who work well against these enemies.
Equip Light-boosting accessories, like the Phantasmal Doll, to increase your damage output. Once defeated, Skeleton Soldiers will automatically drop Mortaskulls.
Continue to explore the Catacombs, triggering and defeating Skeleton Soldiers until you’ve gathered all eight Mortaskulls. When you have enough, your follower Gallica will comment that you’ve collected what’s needed for the quest. Once you have the required Mortaskulls, return to the entrance of the Mausoleum and speak to the Nervous Guard to complete the quest and get your rewards.
Skullduggery quest bug and its solution in Metaphor ReFantazio
This bug occurs if you complete Haunted Heirloom before starting Skullduggery. Both quests require visiting the Grand Cathedral Mausoleum. If you complete the former before picking up the latter, the Skeleton Soldiers inside the dungeon will stop spawning, making it impossible to gather the Mortaskulls.
If you encounter this bug, the only way to fix it is to reload a save before you complete the Haunted Heirloom quest. If this isn’t possible, you’ll need to let the quest’s deadline (July 30 in-game) pass, causing the quest to fail and be removed from your quest log. This bug has been reported multiple times, so it's highly likely to be patched in future updates. Currently, the best solution is to accept both quests together.
