Square Enix is thinking of releasing a few more Final Fantasy video games on the PlayStation 4. Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Square Enix successfully ported Final Fantasy VII to PS4. It was followed by Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster to be ported to PS4 as well.
4Gamer recently held an interview with Final Fantasy series producer Shinji Hashimoto in which he talked about the possibility of porting more games of the franchise onto the PS4. He said the reason behind this porting of games is that of the system’s lack of backwards compatibility and limited “optimization of cloud gaming services.” Releasing these old games on the PS4 is the best way to present these games “beauty” as he puts it.
Another main reason behind this porting is because of the Chinese market. China has just got the PS4 and its their first Sony console in a long time. Square Enix wants to port these games so that they can experience how fun Final Fantasy games can be.
Hashimoto didn’t specify which other Final Fantasy games could be released for the PS4. He just said the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy could work, but they would need “to form a new team to do that.”
