Mount & Blade Warband released nearly four years ago for the PC and introduced some great game changing features like the ability for players to create their own kingdom, multiplayer, the Sarranid Sultunate and a lot more which was a huge change to the original Mount & Blade series of 2008.
Sadly, Taleworlds Entertainment, the developers behind the series have completely ignored the series since and instead chose to focus on working and releasing its standalone expansion of the original game, titled Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword. This time the game is set in 17th century Europe.
So the community took over what the developers had since left neglected. Many new mods have been made by players and fans which greatly improve the game or alter it in some way. Brytenwalda was one of these game changing mods which set the game in 7th century northern Europe at the beginning of the Dark Ages.

The mod was officially completed in 2012 after which fans have been requesting the developers to include Vikings as part of an expansion of their mod. The developers stated that they had bigger plans in store and those plans turned out to be the Mount & Blade Warband Viking Conquest DLC, which was developed jointly by Brytenwalda and Taleworlds Entertainment.
It’s not just Vikings that will be included in this DLC
The Viking Conquest DLC adds a huge list of features to the original Warband, much more than the Brytenwalda mod. As it is centered around Vikings, most of these features are naval things in general, from owning a boat, travel, coastal assaults and combat. The new map is also pretty large with a staggering 300 cities and villages across Denmark, Norway, British Isles and the northern coast of continental Europe. So the feature of owning a boat is also very useful because of the sheer size of the map and the fact that players cannot have their whole army on horseback.
The DLC will also feature a story mode where players can meet historical figures like Harald FairHair and even be a part of the Great Heathen Army, the historical Norse warriors. The DLC also includes expeditions, random events, historical events, religion and even weather, all of which add to make Viking Conquest a very unique and intricate expansion/overhaul.
The game will now also include an option for players to build their own refuge. This will act as a homestead for the players family and the troops family as well. Staff can also be hired to maintain it. There will also be different types of troops available namely the companion soliders, who will be loyal to you no matter what comes your way and the landed classes which are basically peasants you arm up to increase your numbers in a war.
So overall Mount & Blade Warband Viking Conquest is going to be one amazing game changing DLC with improved AI and graphics, tons of new features, multiplayer mode and advanced formations. It is expected to arrive sometime this year in December.
