The brand-new changes to the Apex Legends Battle Pass, which will be incorporated with the Season 22 update, have received extreme backlash from the community. Fans have taken to social media to express their dissent, calling for "No Apex August" in protest. This boycott is targeted toward the developers in hopes of receiving some changes to the newly monetized Battle Pass in Apex Legends.

Dataminer and leaker, Thordan Smash, in solidarity with the masses regarding the changes, called for "No Apex August" by posting on X:

The new changes, which force players to purchase the upcoming Battle passes for real currency, instead of in-game Apex Coins, have left players frustrated at EA's efforts for another unnecessary attempt at cash-grab.

Users @ifollowriversll and @Mr_john_wayne expressed their dissent at this new system. Despite being a veteran player since the early seasons, the former has decided to uninstall the game due to the lack of content, and worse, EA's unnecessary attempts at monetizing every little detail in the game.

Battle Passes in Apex Legends have always been a one-time purchase for most, since completing it would refund you the currency to get your hands on the next one.

However, with these new changes, Battle Passes will no longer be purchasable with Apex Coins, and worse, they will be charged $9.99 per split. Previously, players only had to make a one-time investment for the entirety of the season. However, now, players must spend a minimum of $19.98 to get both passes.

Content creators such as @HambinOwO and Mande have weighed in their opinions regarding the issue. The majority of the player base is entirely against this system of using real currency to purchase the Battle Pass in the game twice in a single season.

The backlash from the community has been so severe that the official post for Apex Legends introducing the Season 22 Battle Pass has been met with a community note, stating:

"While Respawn claims this change is made through "community feedback", it is obvious that this change is only profitable for EA Shareholders. Consumers are forced to spend IRL Currency instead of in-game "Apex Coins"."

Despite offering some of the best shooting and movement mechanics in the market, Apex Legends might see a massive loss in their player base in the upcoming season. Fans seem to be contemplating uninstalling the game and boycotting the new Battle Pass changes that have been promised for Season 22.

Previously, "No Apex August" was initiated in 2022 to bring Respawn Entertainment and EA's attention to their failing game, suffering from relentless bugs and issues. This time around, it appears a new wave of this movement is on track to go live for their arbitrary decisions regarding monetizing the Battle Pass.

Is the backlash towards the new Apex Legends Battle Pass justified?

In our opinion, the Apex Legends community has been significantly affected by the brand-new Battle Pass monetization system. Every single cosmetic in Apex Legends is exorbitantly priced. Starting from a mere Legendary skin to the Heirlooms and Prestige skins offered in-game, the price tags attached to these items come at a fairly high cost.

Being a free game, a one-time $9.99 investment for a Battle Pass was a great means for players to not only have something to grind for throughout the season but also earn a range of free skins and other rewards on the side.

Furthermore, with a surplus of 1200-1300 Apex Coins in hand after completion, players could simply purchase the next Battle Pass without having to spend additional money on a new one.

These changes are nothing but a blatant attempt at cash-grab, and in our opinion, the backlash from the community is justified. We expect EA and Respawn to take due notice and incorporate some changes in the upcoming seasonal release. Judging by the success of the previous boycott, the game could lose out on its entire player base with these new Battle Pass changes.
