New modding tool under development for Dragon Age: Inquisition

Mods will soon be making their way to Dragon Age: Inquisition. The Nexus Mods page has a new modding tool in the works which should pave the way for advanced modifiers and creators to change the game in creative ways. The DAI Tool’s ultimate goal is to make a modding kit similar to the Creation Kit in Skyrim.

Here is Renmiri’s post on the DAI Tool -

“Want to change that pajamas you are forced to use on Sky hold? Give hair to Solas? Make Leliana red headed again? Here we discuss what we know so far and we even have a tool to view the game assets files (CAS) and the game save files (DAS), courtesy of Warranty Voider (ME3 modding tools) and Ehamloptiran (Skyrim, Bioshock modding tools), wogoodes and others who did many mods for games.

The goal is to make a Creation Kit like Skyrim's to allow modders to change game assets. Will we get there? Stay tuned. For now the tools we have are just viewing and exporting, import on version 37!! But Ehamloptiran is working on a texture and mesh replacer tool with some success and he has just released a texture import as a standalone beta tool for experienced modders on 12/15.”

DAI Tools were available since the 19th of December but so far it is pretty restricted in terms of how the game can be modded. The modders can now export the assets as this was the biggest obstacle faced by the modding community. This comes as a great news because now modders can export textures and replace meshes which mean that there will be major modifications to character clothing options.

Sky hold pajama mods are now out

For now, only the Sky hold outfit colours can be modded which is a pretty big achievement on its own and also means that we can expect some better mods soon. There are already two mods which have used the DAI tool to change the beige Sky hold pajamas and the Halamshiral formal wear.

There is a debug tool available along with the tutorials to get players started on how to mod (export and edit assets to create clothing for your characters).

EA has not commented on the recent modding exploits and hopefully they do not ban it. This is a great feat for a game which many thought that can’t be modified. Here is a video to help players understand the modding:
