The announcement was made on the official Apex Legends X page today, October 8, 2024. It stated that new regulations in Korea required a more detailed breakdown of the minimum drop rates in the game.
Therefore, Respawn Entertainment provided the drop rate probability of each item and explained the categories of the items in the FAQ section of the official Apex Legends website. That said, currently, the rates have not yet changed.
Here are some highlights from the announcement:
- Rarity Drop Rates: Rarity drop rates were not adjusted, and now, greater detail about cosmetic item drop rates will be provided by the game.
- Duplicate Protection: The published drop rates will be the lowest possible for a player who owns no Apex Legends cosmetics. Moreover, the drop rates of an active player will be higher than any listed values based on the items they have in their inventory since you cannot receive a duplicate item.
- Heirloom Shards: Players will still receive guaranteed Heirloom Shards if they haven't found them after opening 500 Apex Packs.
Respawn shared the probability of obtaining items of different categories and revealed up to three decimals of the probability value. This also includes the Heirloom Shards.
Apex Legends Heirloom Shards drop rate is shockingly low
Heirloom Shards are some of the rarest items in the game. So much so, that the probability of receiving them was previously listed at less than 1%. However, a new value for the same has been revealed due to regulations in Korea.
The actual probability of earning the Heirloom Shards has been revealed to be 0.045%. The drop rate is shockingly low and means that most players won't see this item for most of their Apex Journey. However, Respawn has created a new system. Now, you can get guaranteed Heirloom Shards if you do not have them after opening 500 Apex Packs.
This increases the chances of getting the shards eventually and unlocking Mythic items in the game. Players can now buckle up to earn these rewards ahead of Apex Legends Season 23.
