Apex Legends recently received the mid-season update for Season 21 where the Skirmisher character Ash got a new buff to her ultimate ability. It was a shocking new revelation since it was not included in the patch notes for the Split 2 update in the official blog. This change was showcased in a new X post by @mokeysniper that contained a short and informative clip. The entire video takes place in the game’s Firing Range.

This article will highlight the new Ash ultimate ability buff in Apex Legends Season 21.

Ash portal receives massive hidden buff in Apex Legends Season 21 mid-season update

Ash is one of the most useful characters when it comes to initiating a fight or retreating from one. Her ultimate allows the entire squad to maintain the instantaneous ability to relocate from one spot to another within seconds - be it high or low ground. It is essentially a point-and-click ability that tears open a portal, similar to Wraith, that can be used by everyone. That said, it is one-way and only goes forward.

The hidden buff increased Ash’s portal distance from around 63 meters to 77 meters. It is approximately a 22% increment to one of the strongest portal abilities in Apex Legends. This tweak was not included in the patch notes which will likely confuse a lot of players. It could simply be one of the pointers that the developers forgot to mention in the notes.

That said, there is a possibility that the latest Ash buff was not intentional and is a bug causing the ability to behave this way. If this turns out to be an in-game issue, fans can expect it to be fixed soon with a future update.

Moreover, players can see a translucent blue dome around them when activating the ultimate ability as Ash. This is used as a visual cue to showcase the maximum range of an ability - which is already present in legends like Pathfinder and Loba. It gets even more exciting as the 77-meter mark lies inside this dome and the actual endpoint seems to be a bit further.

If this change stays in the game, Ash could potentially become a meta pick and bring diversity to the Pathfinder picks for map rotations. The devs might also add in a zoom effect, similar to Pathfinder, for precision placement of the ultimate ability.
