Two Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO game modes that players will get are Episode Battles and Custom Battle. The former is a story mode, allowing players to pick between eight unique characters — including the iconic Goku and Vegeta — as they engage in major fights seen in the mainline shows.
Set-pieces will be derived from both Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super. For example, Goku's stages will begin with his fight against Raditz, leading up to the Tournament of Power in Super. The cutscenes will also often go into first-person, allowing for a more immersive experience from the heroes' perspectives. However, there is another surprise in store.
Players will also have to make various decisions during these stages that will determine how things play out, resulting in outcomes completely different from canon lore. For example, will Goku work with Piccolo to beat Raditz or tackle him all alone to save Gohan? To learn more about how such decisions will affect the story's outcome, fans will have to wait until the game's launch day.
The other Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO game mode, Custom Battles, sees players live out their own battle fantasies. Fans will also be able to select from unique battle conditions and objectives under the bonus Battle section. Taking things further, the Edit Battle mode will allow players to tweak parameters ranging from Ki recovery to animations, effects, and poses. It'll also let gamers create custom cutscenes.
In Custom Battles, players' creations can be uploaded for other users to check out. Furthermore, even the game's existing content will be customizable in this mode, lending further creative control to players both online and offline. However, there is one more Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO game mode to be discussed.
Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO game modes to include offline multiplayer mode
The developers are heeding fan requests, as local split-screen multiplayer is coming to the game at launch, but there's a catch — it will only be playable within the Hyperbolic Time Chamber stage. The developers cite this game's high visual fidelity, including detailed destruction and dynamic nature across complex maps, as the culprit for this limitation.
Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO will arrive on October 11, 2024, for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
