A recent report suggests that EA is shutting down some legendary Battlefield games for old-generation consoles. This includes Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, and Battlefield Hardline for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. As confirmed by EA’s shutdown page, the servers for these titles will be closed from November 7, 2024. That said, you can still play them on the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PC.

EA confirms that some Battlefield games will be shut down starting November 7, 2024, for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Once the server goes offline, you will no longer be able to access their online modes.

Moreover, several Battlefield Xbox achievements will no longer be accessible or available for unlocking. A total of 98 achievements of the Battlefield games will be discontinued.


Will PC players be able to play Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, and Battlefield Hardline?

The server close issue will not affect the PC players and they can continue enjoying the game and completing the achievements.

While the developer has yet to make an official statement regarding the decision, we can assume it may be related to the titles causing several problems on the old-gen consoles. Players face connection issues, lagging issues, server crashes, etc, which hinder their gameplay experience.

Moreover, these old Battlefield games have a low player base on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and the developers have to spend considerable resources to maintain their compatibility with old-gen consoles. In 2023, EA already shut down 12 legendary titles, including multiple Battlefield series like Battlefield 1943, Battlefield Bad Company, and Battlefield Bad Company 2.
