Genshin Impact players seek legal action against Hoyoverse for 'consumer fraud' after Neuvillette 'nerf'

The arrival of the Fontaine region in Genshin Impact introduced exciting new characters and events, such as Neuvillette. The Ludex of Fontaine is a rather powerful Hydro DPS unit that can decimate waves of foes with relative ease. The more keen-eyed readers may recall that this particular Genshin Impact character possessed a rather curious exploit that made him unstoppable in certain challenge modes (such as the Spiral Abyss).

In an interesting turn of events, developer HoYoverse has decided to address this “problem” by issuing an official fix, seven patches after Neuvillette's release as a playable character. This has not been taken too kindly by the playerbase, with many considering a potential lawsuit against the company.

A breakdown of the entire situation can be found discussed below.

Genshin Impact may face legal trouble after the Neuvillette ‘nerf’

As detailed within multiple social media sites in China, players are furious at the Neuvillette ‘nerf’. The “spin to win” exploit involved accelerating mouse DPI and panning the camera at surrounding enemies to blast a beam of hydro energy using the character. This technique was used to cheese through a large portion of the Spiral Abyss with minimal effort.

While technically not an “exploit”, it did indeed remain as a workaround that was used by many. However, HoYoverse’s decision to lessen the effectiveness of this workaround seven patches after his release is kind of strange and seems largely unnecessary.

Most players in China seem to agree to the same, and have decided to take up legal action against the company, citing “consumer fraud”.

Although reactionary, it should be kept in mind that players spend a ton of real-world money to obtain (and enhance) characters in such games, and the implication of a lawsuit is a very serious matter indeed.

Regardless, this dispute will likely need time to settle, with HoYoverse and Genshin Impact likely being forced to enter into a compromise of sorts.
