Helldivers 2 Omens of Tyranny out now (TGA 2024 announcement)

Helldivers 2 Omens of Tyranny is bringing back the Illuminates. The "advanced, highly intelligent beings" have been absent for about a century from the in-game universe after the First Galactic War. The new major update announcement came at The Game Awards 2024, which has already played host to the world premiere of The Witchers 4.

Helldivers 2 Omens of Tyranny brings back the Illuminates

Omens of Tyranny is out now, with Helldivers 2 players currently able to dive into the game and spread democracy against the new threat. The official blog post mentions:

"The Illuminate are spreading through mind control, abducting citizens of weaker dedication to democratic ideals and brainwashing them for a dark purpose which is still yet unknown to us. These mind-controlled citizens have been twisted and corrupted into a menace we call The Voteless–Super Earth’s own people turned against the principles of Democracy and fair elections, losing their ability to vote entirely."

Reportedly, it is not clear why the Illuminates are back and what's the reason behind their invasion. Their actions in-game include "staging attacks, building mysterious structures, and abducting citizens before disappearing again."

Omens of Tyranny unlocks new mission areas, where Super Earth's colonies are being invaded by the Voteless and the Illuminate.

Given the fighting area is now cities, players are meant to navigate "closer quarters, dark alleys, and forked paths." With the latest update, a Fast Recon Vehicle "FRV" is available in colonies. The whole squad can fit into it as you drive through the mission, laying suppressive fire and spreading democracy all around.
