Adam "Adam" Maanane and Team BDS failed to defeat their demons once again as they fell to G2 Esports in the Lower Bracket Finals of the LEC 2024 Summer Split Playoffs. Team BDS have now finished third in all three playoffs this year. While the roster has secured a spot at the LEC Season Finals, it's a disappointing conclusion to their regular season.
After the 3-1 loss to G2 Esports, I had the chance to talk with Adam to reflect upon the loss and discuss what's next for Team BDS along with additional insights about the team's atmosphere.
Team BDS Adam talks about the series against G2 Esports, goals for Season Finals, K'Sante pentakill, and more

Q: Hello Adam. Commiserations on the loss against G2 Esports. How are you feeling right now?
Adam: A bit sad, of course. I don't have that much regrets, actually. I think we played well. Of course, each one of us could have done better. In the end, we were not strong enough to close out the games when we were in good condition. For example, we should have won the second game when we were 8k gold up.
We were up 5k gold in the first game as well. We ended up having a bad fight in their base. It was a close series but I am a little sad.
Q: Team BDS once again failed to get past their eternal nemesis, G2 Esports. Has this gotten annoying for you at this point?
Adam: Yeah. I mean, we are trying, and we wanted to actively win this split. We tried our best to do so. We knew that we would have to beat G2 in the end to achieve this. They have been beating us every time since the beginning of the year. Each time you look at us playing against G2, the results become closer than the previous one.
I don't even think that we were weaker than G2 today, but they were just the better team, even though I think we played better than them today. We applied what we learned from everything we needed to work on. We still need a bit more, and some steps that we need to go through to make it.
Q: It was obviously a very close series. Does this give hope for the team coming into the Season Finals despite Hans sama, Mikyx, and Striker saying that G2 Esports weren't at their peak right now?
Adam: Yeah. We had good best-of-ones in the Summer Split. When the best-of-threes started, we started to get super shaky. The moment best-of-fives started to come up, this was when I could find that we were a real team. This loss is really unfortunate. We were so close to beating G2 today. It's just unlucky.
Q: We saw similar drafts in Game 2 and Game 3 from Team BDS while G2 played a standard team fighting comp. Game 2 worked out very well until the team fights happened. Talk to me more about the Game 3 draft as Team BDS got absolutely dominated in this game.
Adam: The Game 3 draft was actually unplayable, but it happens. They had a way better draft, and realistically we couldn't do anything. Our draft for Game 4 was insane. We were so close to beating G2, and it was close to going to Game 5. Who knows what would have happened in Game 5? The Game 3 draft was a bit unfortunate, but we learned from it.
Q: You had a great pentakill on K'Sante in Game 4 despite the loss. Do you think this champion will ever fall out of the pro-play meta completely?
Adam: I am not sure. Playing K'Sante in the current meta is not that easy because there is a lot of range and mobility. K'Sante gets countered pretty hard by the ranged meta. I was full tank, but I had the feeling that I wasn't tanky at all in the late game. I felt they could legitimately kill me in three seconds even when I am full HP.
There is a lot of damage in this meta which makes tanks really hard to play. I still got a pentakill. That's a bit of joy in the depression of the loss.
Q: The Dr. Mundo pick from BrokenBlade completely took over Game 4 in the later stages. Do you think we will see this champion even more in Season Finals and Worlds 2024?
Adam: Most likely not. To be fair, Mundo was technically not even good in our comp because we had so much crowd control, burst, and consistent DPS as well. It was not an easy game for Mundo, but I think we executed the fights super badly. I feel like if we had a bit more connection with each other, and if we just communicated a bit more regarding how we wanted to play the team fights, maybe it could have gone better.
Overall, Mundo is quite hard to play. It can be quite good as a last pick if you see the whole enemy team comp. If you have a good angle for Mundo, I think this champion can really take over the game.
Q: We saw a couple of errors from Ice during the Elder Dragon team fight in Game 4 where he flashed in for the kill and kept attacking the Elder after getting a reset. Was there a communication gap or lack of cohesion due to the stress and duration of the series?
Adam: I am not so sure because I don't have the POV of Ice. I don't even know what he did clearly. I do believe that if we lost this fight, there must have been some miscommunication or individual misplays. I think we shouldn't have lost this fight, at least with the conditions we had.
Q: Ice is the first import player that you and a lot of others in Team BDS have played with. How has it been working with him ever since he joined the team?
Adam: He was lowkey shy at first. First of all, he had to get used to his new environment since it was a new country with a new culture and food as well. Everything was super new for him. Of course, he had some experience in Europe as he was in Poland but joining Team BDS meant that he was now in the LEC.
We wanted to integrate him into the team in the fastest way possible to make him feel good. We knew, from the start, that he was mechanically insane. In terms of being vocal, he is not the one who talks the most. When he has something to say, he will just say it, but apart from that, he will not talk. He will just do pentakills because that's what he likes to do.
I think he has been doing a really good job so far, and the team atmosphere has been really good since the beginning of the year. He adapted pretty well and I think he likes the team as well, so I am happy for him.
Q: The next stop for Team BDS is the LEC Season Finals. Many expect you guys to head to Worlds 2024 as the third seed from the LEC, as G2 and Fnatic are pretty much a given considering their current forms. What are your overall goals coming into the Season Finals?
Adam: First of all, we want to go to Worlds. This is not our only objective. We would like a title. I would like to win the LEC. For me, I would be highly satisfied if we managed to reach the Grand Finals. This would mean that we qualify for Worlds. I want to reach at least the Grand Finals this year because I have been placed in third place three times this year.
I would at least like a silver medal instead of a bronze medal. Obviously, I really want to win a title because I have been playing in the LEC for almost three years now. I need this title because this is what lack in my trophy cabinet.
Q: Do you have anything that you would like to share with the fans supporting Team BDS and you?
Adam: I am sorry to whoever that got disappointed. We actually tried our best. We have been working hard to perform the best we could today. Unfortunately, we couldn't win. We will make sure to come back stronger for the Season Finals to deliver an even better performance than today.
