Titan Forge Games's announcement of SMITE 2 has generated a lot of hype within the gaming community, with popular Twitch streamers such as Mizkif, Sydeon, and others reacting to the trailer released on X. The announcement has made quite an impression on long-standing fans as well, garnering well over a million views on the social media platform.

While the release date has not been announced, the news about the sequel comes about ten years after the initial game was released. SMITE 2 has naturally received a lot of attention from the fanbase, with OTK co-founder and popular Twitch streamer Mizkif even directly asking to be let into the Alpha testing of the game, which is slated to go live in Spring 2024. The streamer joked that he was willing to leave his "wife" for the game.

The fact that Mizkif forgot he is unmarried in his excitement is matched by the enthusiasm shown by fellow content creators as well. Granted that it hasn't even been two weeks into 2024, Sydeon from Offline TV called the announcement of SMITE 2 the best news she has received this year.

That said, some fans have also raised issues with skins not being carried over to the new game.

"Please good lord almighty let us transfer all skins": Fans raise concern over skins from the first game not transferring to SMITE 2

SMITE 2 was revealed today at the SMITE World Championship 2024 and has seen an overwhelmingly positive response from fans after the trailer dropped. The sequel is a huge leap in terms of graphical and mechanical improvements as it reimagines the series in Unreal Engine 5, giving it quite an edge over the first game, which was in Unreal Engine 3.

The improvements and the announcement of brand-new heroes were met with much enthusiasm from the MOBA community, but some fans have raised concerns after learning that not all cosmetics from the previous games will be ported over to the new game.

In fact, according to a preview report, in-game skins that were released before Year 11 will not carry over to the next game, as confirmed by the developers.

This has dampened the spirits of many, with fans who have invested a significant amount of funds into SMITE already calling out the legacy gem system. Here are some of the reactions to their official post on X, with people complaining about the decision.

Players should note that according to the developers, the release of SMITE 2, unlike CS2, will not replace the previous game, and the two stand-alone games will co-exist and get regular updates going forward.
