Popular Twitch streamer and progressive content creator "HasanAbi" Piker has recently tweeted in support of YouTuber-turned-boxer Ian "iDubbbz" after he released a 17-minute long video apologizing for his past behavior that has been widely deemed racist and offensive. Piker's post has gone viral, receiving over 500K views within a couple of hours. The video itself has divided Ian's community, with many feeling he is abandoning his roots by discarding "edgy" humor.
iDubbbz has been dealing with this backlash for quite some time, especially after he called out some of his fans for being offensive and childish in an interview with Anthony Padilla, where he brought up how problematic his past content was. HasanAbi and many others have praised the video's message, with the Twitch streamer writing how taking responsibility for the "toxic and racist aspects" of his old content shows that the YouTuber has matured:
"Lot of old idubbz fans online upset that he has changed for the better. I’m proud of him for taking ownership over the toxic and racist aspects of his old content. I'm glad he has grown to have a more empathetic outlook."

In a subsequent tweet, HasanAbi also mentioned how calling out the toxic elements of his community has meant iDubbbz will be getting a lot of hate and predicted that the same people who cry about cancel culture will share his old clips to smear him. He opined:
"His edgy fans will now cynically try to prove that he hasn’t changed at all by clipping his new content out of context."
"Character development": Why are some people mad at iDubbbz for apologizing for his past content?
As HasanAbi mentioned in the tweets about the issue, iDubbbz's past content was markedly more problematic. The YouTuber's past content is full of racial slurs and other found language which is toxic at best, and offensive at worst.
Things such as saying the n-word on camera has been widely criticized by many, and in a recent video, the content creator apologized to his community and the larger world for his actions.
This has gotten him quite a lot of good reactions, too, with many calling it "character development" for the content creator turned boxer who recently hosted the second Creator Clash.
However, by distancing himself from what many consider "edgy" humor and calling out people who still use such toxic language, the YouTuber has also attracted the ire of many of his long-time viewers. Here is a Twitter user trying to refute the above comment about character development by calling it decay:
His most popular series, the Content Cop, has also been removed from his channel now that he has apologized for how he treated his fellow content creators in some YouTube videos.
Case in point, in the video, iDubbbz apologized to influencer Tana Mongeau for how he used the n-word. After a brief interaction on Twitter, it seems the two will be going on a podcast soon to clear the air.
