Zack "Asmongold" could not believe it after looking at the promotional matter for the current Apex Legends crossover event with Final Fantasy 7, especially lambasting the Aerith-inspired skin for the legend Horizon that was released alongside the event.
As one of the first major crossovers for Respawn's Battle Royale with another popular gaming franchise, many skins and in-game items have been added, which has caused some backlash from certain sections of the player base.
Out of the various things that have been released in Apex Legends, Asmongold appeared quite annoyed after coming across a Reddit post on his subreddit titled "When Western developers attempt at making Eastern characters." It compared Aerith's actual look from Final Fantasy 7 to Horizon's outfit, which is inspired by the popular character.

"When Western developers attempt at making Eastern characters. What's this? (After zooming in on the pictures) What is this? Is it really this bad? Like, I haven't played Apex Legends in a long time."
"Did Square Enix see this?": Asmongold on the Aerith skin in the Apex Legends Final Fantasy 7 crossover event
After talking about how bad he thought the in-game cosmetic looked, the OTK co-founder continued his criticism of the Horizon Aerith skin, stating that he could not understand how it was approved in the first place. Going as far as to wonder how Square Enix, the creators of the Final Fantasy franchise, approved of such a thing:
"I am going to be honest, this looks f*cking ridiculous. I don't know who the f*ck thought it would be a good idea. It's the dumbest f*cking sh*t I have ever seen in my life. Did Square Enix see this? See what it was supposed like?"
After people in the audience pointed out to the streamer that the cosmetic item was just an outfit for an Apex Legends character and not supposed to be the character of Aerith herself, Asmongold doubled down and described it as follows:
"It's an outfit skin, it's not the actual character? Yeah, sure it's not the actual character. But it still looks like a crackhead from Walmart. So I don't know who thought this was a good idea."
Here's how fans reacted to the streamer's comments, with many calling out Apex Legends for certain things introduced in the Final Fantasy 7 crossover.
Many players have raised issues with the monetization aspect of the Final Fantasy 7 crossover event, with popular streamers and esports players also weighing in on the high prices of the cosmetic items. ImperialHal recently commented on it while streaming on Twitch, calling the publishers "greedy f*cks."
