"Only in La Liga": Fans react as IShowSpeed extends support for Vinicius Jr. after he was sent off during match against Valencia
The recent controversy surrounding the Real Madrid vs. Valencia CF La Liga match has been making waves around the football community. Many believe it was another incident of racism that occurred in the Spanish league.
What makes all of this so concerning for many is the fact that this has happened before — to the same player, nonetheless. This has led many of IShowSpeed's fans to condemn the league as a whole, with one Twitter user saying that this can only happen in La Liga:
For those unaware, allegations have been brought forward against Valencia fans for using racist chants during the match, which were directed at Vinicius Jr. When he pointed that out to the referee, the game was halted for several minutes. Things got to a boiling point during the closing moments of injury time. This is when the Brazillian was sent off after an altercation with opposing players.
The fact that this type of incident has happened before was pointed out by the Real Madrid forward, who tweeted his side of the story. He called La Liga "racist" after having endured racial prejudice multiple times during his stint in Spain.
Here's what he said (translated from Spanish):
"It wasn't the first time, nor the second, nor the third. Racism is normal in La Liga. The competition thinks it's normal, the Federation does too and the opponents encourage it. I'm so sorry. The championship that once belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano, and Messi today belongs to racists."
Vinicius Jr. went as far as to say that Spain's reputation has taken a significant hit on an international level, with many in his home country of Brazil thinking it is a nation of "racists":
"I'm sorry for the Spaniards who don't agree, but today, in Brazil, Spain is known as a country of racists. And unfortunately, for everything that happens each week, I have no defense. I agree."
Shortly after this, IShowSpeed posted about the incident. Since he is one of the most prominent Black content creators on YouTube, fans have come out in support of this streamer with many commending him for taking a stand.
When one Twitter user tried to dunk on him for not being in the same circle as VInicius Jr, IShowSpeed shared a screenshot with the player proving that they have talked online.
Fans will also remember how Vinicius Jr's dance celebrations a few months ago were subject to a lot of criticism along racial lines.
