Metaphor ReFantazio sells over 1 million copies on launch day

Breaking all expectations and perhaps even records, Metaphor Refantazio has already surpassed one million copies when it hasn't even been a whole day since the launch of the massive JRPG adventure worldwide. Publisher SEGA broke the news on their official X account, which is both surprising and also not at the same time.

Metaphor ReFantazio becomes the fastest-selling ATLUS game with over 1 million units sold at launch

The Japanese publisher broke this news to the players via a post with cute custom artwork featuring the Fairy Gallica. The text reads:

"Atlus' brand-new fantasy RPG "Metaphor: ReFantazio" has surpassed 1 million copies sold worldwide! According to Metacritic, the game received high scores on each platform, including the PlayStation®5 version: 93 points."

ATLUS' latest gem has outpaced Persona 3 Reload as the fastest-selling title in the developer's history of making video games. While the remake of the beloved PS2 title sold a million in a week, a brand-new IP such as this does surprise as this is a JRPG title that is relatively niche.

It is most certainly no GTA 5 or Call of Duty to sell higher million-digit numbers in a short time frame, however, this success still highlights how the genre is becoming ever-increasingly popular. The game is also one of the highest-rated this year and will undoubtedly be an easy Game of the Year contender at the Game Awards showcase later in 2024.

Metaphor ReFantazio just launched across most major platforms so players can expect this number to rise as more and more players get their hands on this new fantasy experience of magic and wonder. As per our review, although the experience will feel familiar to fans of SMT and Persona games, it is still a grand adventure worth checking out.
