The founder of MiHoYo, Liu Wei, was a victim of car vandalism in the US, according to a report from a Chinese social media post. It appears that he rented the vehicle and parked it somewhere in California's Bay Area, which incidentally is ill-reputed for its rising car-related crimes.

Fortunately, the beloved founder and his travel companion were unharmed, but a particular belonging was stolen during the incident. This article will further shed light on Liu Wei’s car vandalism incident.

Recently, MiHoYo’s founder, Liu Wei, otherwise known as Da Wei, was on a trip to the US where he rented a car. He had parked the vehicle at a parking space in California's Bay Area, only to find it vandalized upon return. Thankfully, none of his belongings were stolen.

Fans are relieved that the attack was not targeted towards the founder. That said, it is only natural for the community to be concerned about him, especially since Wei had previously escaped an assassination attempt at MiHoYo's headquarters in Shanghai. This happened after the developers removed the controversial HoV's (Herrscher of the Void) summer skins from Honkai Impact 3rd.

In light of the vandalism incident, it has been speculated that Liu Wei is nothing more than an unfortunate victim of car-related crime that is rampant in California's Bay Area. It could have been someone else's vehicle if not the rented ride of MiHoYo’s founder. Aside from the car, the only casualty, as reported by the post, was a stolen laptop belonging to Da Wei’s companion.

Needless to say, Wei is completely safe, basking in the success of titles like Honkai Star Rail, Genshin Impact, and more under his name. In fact, Zenless Zone Zero reportedly made $96 million in July 2024, despite having some mixed reviews on launch.
