Overwatch 2 Game Director Aaron Keller provided some information about the game’s upcoming changes for the competitive season. Although he did not reveal exactly what fans can expect from the next competitive year, he highlighted that the developers are planning to bring a lot of new updates to refresh the entire roadmap:

"On the topic of Competitive, this is the last season of the 2024 Competitive Year, which means you can expect some pretty big changes we're super excited about and think you will be too, coming in 2025."

Overwatch 2 has seen a sudden dip in player count after the release of Marvel Rivals, a competing title from NetEase Games. This might have propelled the integration of changes in the competitive segment as devs try to re-establish the game as one of the most popular hero shooters.

This article will highlight Aaron Keller’s confirmation about Overwatch 2 2025 Competitive changes.

Overwatch 2 Competitive to receive massive overhaul in 2025

Overwatch 2 2024 Competitive is coming to an end with Season 14 being the final installation in the game’s ranked playlist. The Game Director pointed out that this will also be the last chance for the player base to purchase the Jade weapon variants using the 2024 Competitive Points. Any remaining points in each player account will be converted to Legacy Competitive Points and can only be used to buy Gold weapons later.

Keller confirmed that the 2025 Competitive will feature a new set of weapon cosmetics exclusively for the ranked points. This means that the start of the new ranked season in 2025 will bring new skins to the fold and allow players to rake in points to purchase them.

In the official Overwatch 2 blog, Aaron Keller also said:

"You’ll be able to earn some additional points in another Drives campaign at the end of the season, and it's going to be bigger than before as well."

This 2024 Competitive season will introduce a bigger Drives campaign at the end of Season 14. This will enable players to rake in additional competitive points and extra rewards by simply playing the game’s ranked playlist. Since this is the final season for this competitive year, there is a chance that the Season 14 Drive will be enabled for Open Queue as well (instead of existing only for Role Queue).
