All we know about Overwatch 2's new 6v6 format

The brand-new Director's Take from Overwatch 2's Game Director, Aaron Keller, has confirmed the return of 6v6 in the game. There is a catch, however, that the game mode will only be available as an experimental playlist upon its launch. This will be to track progress and experiment with the format before finalizing its update in future seasons.

As per Aaron Keller, they will try different formats of the 6v6 game mode in OW2 and experiment by loosening the role-lock system in the game. While they do not want the free flow of Open Queue, the developers are looking into the possibility of trying out new Hero combinations and other viable synergies in a 6v6 setup.

These new changes will see the light of day as early as Season 13. There will be much to balance if the developers want to properly initiate the 6v6 format in Overwatch 2 and these experimental playlists will be the perfect feedback tool to understand every Hero's potential in such a format.

Last but not least, we will also see newer iterations of Sombra's Quick Play Hacked coming into effect in the upcoming season of OW2. These mini-events will be used to test new features and other additions to the game to determine their viability.
