Capcom is expected to re-release 1996's original Resident Evil on PC soon, according to a rating given by Europe's PEGI. It seems the first-ever game in the survival-horror franchise has been finally cleared for a PC launch, presumably this week. The page with the rating given by PEGI has reportedly disclosed an exact release date too for the classic installment.

This article will mention key details regarding the expected re-release of Resident Evil from almost three decades ago.

Capcom expected to re-release 1996's Resident Evil for PC this week

Japanese media outlet Gematsu recently observed that Resident Evil from 1996 received a PEGI rating of 18 in Europe for a release on PC. Interestingly, the launch date mentioned on the rating page is June 18, 2024.

For those unaware, the original game in the blockbuster franchise by Capcom has been widely unavailable on PC despite releasing way back in 1996. To this day, it's not even available on Steam.

While a title based on the first game is on Steam, it's mostly a version derived from 2002's remake for Nintendo's GameCube platform.

Even on PlayStation's latest store, the original installment is not available for purchase right now. It can only be accessed through the PS Plus Classics library.

So far, Capcom has launched three hit remakes for RE2, RE3, and RE4 but not for the first game that kickstarted the entire franchise. Meanwhile, recent leaks have suggested that Capcom is reportedly working on multiple remakes for the likes of Code Veronica and Zero.
