Resident Evil 2 remake hits 13.9 million sold units to take the top spot in Capcom's blockbuster series

Capcom's X account named @dev1_official shared a post with the entire team of RE2 remake celebrating its massive sales milestone. The post revealed that Resident Evil 2 remake sold 10 million units in July 2022, and this year, the game has sold 13.9 million. Currently, it's the highest-selling game in the history of the franchise, which started in 1996.

It's undoubtedly a huge milestone for the remake based on the iconic second title in the series, which was released in 1998. It's crucial to note that RE2 remake's current sales figures are not combined with the original game. Hence, the stats are even more commendable.

The game has also outperformed a classic Capcom title under the Resident Evil series: 2009's Resident Evil 5, which was previously the highest-selling title. However, its sales numbers were based on the initial version and other versions launched for newer devices. Thus, the RE2 remake has now clinched the top spot.
