Riot Games has reportedly shelved Pool Party, a fighting game inspired by the classic Super Smash Bros. Melee. Pool Party was merely the codename of the title which was set in the League of Legends universe. Unfortunately, according to journalist Mikhail Klimentov, the project will allegedly not see the light of day.

As per the report, a 70 to 80-member team was working behind the project when the decision to shelve it came along. This article will explore more about the Pool Party project and why it may have been shut down.

Reports regarding the shelving of Pool Party came in after insiders revealed that about half the members of the team were offered to get reassigned to a different team within the Riot Games studio. Meanwhile, other members sought different roles from the internal job board.

Apart from that, a few members had reportedly not received any offers and were not looking for any jobs within the company. These employees could have been removed or may have quit after the project was shut down.

It was also reported that the developer did away with Pool Party because of MultiVersus, a free-to-play fighting game published by Warner Bros. Riot Games believed that MultiVersus was not doing well and that consumers may not have a great desire for a similar title.

Pool Party could have had team party systems as well as casual friendly mechanics for players to enjoy. However, it was initially proposed as a rather hardcore fight-focused game. This change in the title's nature allegedly left some employees unhappy with the project.

However, this wasn't the only fighting game under Riot Games's wing. Their other project, 2XKO, is still under development and has seemingly remained unaffected by Pool Party's alleged demise. The title is meant to be a 2v2 team-based fighting game and is meant to come out sometime in the year 2025.
