In a surprise move, the popular organization Team Secret unexpectedly exited the PUBG Mobile Esports scene following the announcement of the partnered teams in the Southeast Asia region for the 2024 PMSL. The club cited that they made this decision due to the esports landscape of the game being a fully franchised league that they do not see any potential in.

On January 12, 2024, Tencent revealed its partnership with the 20 organizations from the Southeast Asian region for the PUBG Mobile Super League (PMSL). These clubs will be provided slots in all three seasons of this prestigious event this year. Apart from these teams, the winners of the regional PMNC events will take part in the first season of the tournament.

Team Secret was under the partnership program in 2023 and contested in both editions of the PMSL, but this year, the renowned organization has not been ranked in the list. The European firm debuted in the PUBG Mobile scene in April 2019 by acquiring the Malaysian roster of Genexus Esports. They have now shut down operations after around five years.

Team Secret disbands their PUBG Mobile team

The last members of Team Secret were:

  1. Helton
  2. Putra
  3. RyZai
  4. Zral

On January 12, 2024, Team Secret made a long post on social media about disbanding their PUBG Mobile lineup. They mentioned the ups and downs in the scene and posted:

"We started our PUBG Mobile journey in 2019. Back then the scene was still very young but we could see potential. We experienced the highest of the highs, making it to several Global and Regional Championships, but also the lowest of the lows. It wasn't always positive but we loved the game and its community."

The company also revealed the main reason for their sudden exit:

"As the decision has been made to transition to a fully-franchised league, we do not see that potential anymore. Everyone who has been following the scene has noticed that this isn't what it used to be: viewership went down, fans moved on to greener pastures."

Team Secret stated their belief that the game should be open to everybody who wants to play. The club was unhappy with the decision to have a full franchise league in the game.

During the Global Championship 2022, Tencent announced the franchise structure for the Southeast Asian region. There were only 15 partnered teams in 2023, but the company has now partnered with 20 teams for 2024. The publisher has also replaced the notable PMPL tournament with the PMSL in other regions this year. However, the officials did not say whether the Super League would be under the franchise program in other regions.

Team Secret's major achievements

Team Secret secured their first major title in the PUBG Mobile Pro League MYSG Season 1 in early 2020. They also conquered the Season 2 of the event in the same year. The organization then earned seventh place in the PMGC 2020. They also lifted the prestigious trophy of the PMPL Southeast Asia Championship Season 4, which was held in November 2021. Since then, the club has not won any tournaments.
